The World Institute on Disability (WID) advances the inclusion, rights and justice of people with disabilities with the design and delivery of whole community solutions. MISSION On a global scale, to continuously advance the rights and opportunities of more than one billion people with disabilities. DISABILITY-LED We believe in the power of people with disabilities to lead, and that lived experience is critical in creating effective policies, systems, tools, products, and services.
About WID:
The World Institute on Disability (WID) vision is to build a world in which people with disabilities live freely where access, inclusion, equity, and resilience are embedded throughout every global community. To build a more inclusive global society, WID helps assure that products and services are more accessible, promotes equity policies, provides consulting services, offers training and tools, and supports emergency, disaster, and climate efforts.
Why we 🤍 them:
We love the World Institute on Disability because they represent a movement to empower people with disabilities. In May 1983, the WID was founded by disability rights movement leaders Ed Roberts, Judy Heumann, and Joan Leon. Its original function was as a research center and resource for information such as training, public education and technical assistance. Today the WID is a global resource, and to build a more inclusive global society, WID helps assure that products and services are more accessible, promotes equity policies, provides consulting services, offers training and tools, and supports emergency, disaster, and climate efforts.
